Introduction

All good expeditions should be simple in concept, difficult in their execution and satisfying to remember--Alastair Humphreys

So what's the difference between a cycling tour and a cycling expedition? Perhaps it's about minimalism,  travelling tough terrain and wild camping in less than ideal weather conditions. Or put more simply, roughing it. Why I find that attractive I have no idea, maybe it's about wanting to get back to basics once in a while. It makes you appreciate so much that we just take for granted.

I am planning to cycle the well-documented 2000km Trans-Andaluz (TA) mountain bike route, starting in January. OK, the weather in Spain can be pretty nice, but there are some chilly high altitude bits in the Sierras and the Grazalema National Park has the highest rainfall in the whole of Spain.........oh, and I'm planning to wild/stealth camp the whole route.
